Didi Kirsten Tatlow is Senior Reporter for International Affairs and Investigations at the U.S. newsmagazine Newsweek, based in Berlin and covering China globally. 

Tatlow has worked for Hong Kong, U.S. and German media starting at her hometown newspaper the Hong Kong Standard in 1994, including 14 years in Beijing for the South China Morning Post and the New York Times from 2003-2017. She has won many prizes for her work. 

Tatlow is currently a non-resident fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Global China Hub, and has been a non-resident fellow at Sinopsis in Prague, a visiting fellow at MERICS in Berlin, and was the head of the Asia Program at the DGAP (German Council on Foreign Relations). She has co-authored and co-edited a book on technology transfer, “China’s Quest for Foreign Technology: Beyond Espionage” (Routledge, 2021). Tatlow studied the violin at the Central Academy of Music in Beijing 中央音乐学院 and is fluent in Chinese and German, with rusty French and basic Russian.
