After completing his studies at the Royal Military Academy in Brussels, Miguel De Bruycker served as a company commander in Germany for two years. He then transitioned to the information technology branch within the Belgian Defence, where he was responsible for implementing Local Area Networks and services across more than 20 sites in Belgium. He later joined the Military Staff and completed his master’s degree in Information Technologies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
In 2005, he contributed to a long-term vision document and wrote a dissertation on Cyber Defence. He joined the General Intelligence and Security Service, where he was responsible for securing classified networks and creating the first cyberdefence unit in Belgium. Since 2008, he and his cyber team have been involved in handling all major cyber incidents in Belgium.
In 2012, he took the initiative to write the first National Cybersecurity Strategy.
On August 17, 2015, he founded the Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium, where he continues to serve as Director General. Under his visionary leadership, this national centre has significantly enhanced Belgium’s cybersecurity, making it one of the least cyber-vulnerable countries in the EU.
